Cómo montar una sweet table: tarta y cupcakes

Una sweet table con tarta y cupcakes impresiona más que cualquiera de las dos por separado. Así se planifica.

Building a sweet table with cake and cupcakes

How to Build a Sweet Table (Cake + Cupcakes)

A sweet table is a dessert display with multiple items at different heights. It looks impressive, gives guests options, and solves the "one cake isn't enough for 60 people" problem. Here's how to put one together using cake and cupcakes.

Decide What Goes on the Table

Keep it simple. A sweet table doesn't need 15 different items. For most parties, three types of sweets are plenty:

  • A centerpiece cake (18 or 22 cm), the visual anchor. It's taller than everything else and draws the eye.
  • Cupcakes (12–36 depending on group size), pre-portioned, easy to grab, no cutting needed.
  • Something small like macarons, meringue kisses, or chocolate-covered strawberries. These fill gaps on the table and give variety without adding a whole new baking project.

We can supply the cake and cupcakes. The small extras depend on your preference. Some customers add their own cookies or candy alongside our items.

How Many of Each?

A rough guide for a sweet table where the sweets are the main dessert:

  • 30 guests: 1 cake (18 cm) + 18 cupcakes
  • 50 guests: 1 cake (22 cm) + 24–30 cupcakes
  • 80 guests: 1 cake (22 cm) + 48 cupcakes, or 2 cakes (18 cm each) + 36 cupcakes

If the sweet table is alongside a full meal and other desserts, reduce quantities by about a third. Not everyone will eat cake after a three-course dinner.

Height and Display Tips

Height variation is the whole trick. A flat table with everything at the same level looks like a buffet, not a sweet table. Put the main cake on a tall cake stand (25–30 cm high). Place cupcakes on a tiered stand or stack of books covered with fabric. Scatter smaller items on the table surface itself.

Use odd numbers of grouped items. Three stacks of cupcakes look better than four. Five macarons in a cluster look better than six. This is a basic styling rule that works every time.

Color coordination matters. Match the cupcake buttercream colors to the cake design and the party theme. We can color-match across your entire order.

Practical Setup Advice

Set up the table at least 30 minutes before guests arrive. Buttercream at room temperature looks its best, glossy and smooth. A rushed setup in front of guests never works out.

Position the table against a wall, not in the middle of the room. A backdrop (fabric, balloons, greenery) behind the table makes everything pop in photos. Guests approach from one side, which prevents the table from looking picked-over from multiple angles.

Keep the table out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources. Buttercream softens above 22°C. An air-conditioned room is ideal for summer events.

Preguntas frecuentes

Can you deliver everything for a sweet table in one order?
Yes, cake and cupcakes can be ordered together. Pickup is available in Vlaardingen and Rotterdam. Interested in delivery? Reach out via the order form, DM, or email to discuss options.
Do I need to buy cake stands separately?
Yes, we supply the cake and cupcakes but not the display stands or table decorations. Cake stands can be rented from party supply stores or bought affordably online.
How long can a sweet table stay out during a party?
Buttercream holds well at room temperature for several hours if the room stays below 22 degrees Celsius. In a warm room or outdoor setting, limit the display to 2–3 hours. Cover or refrigerate any leftovers.
