In the Netherlands, turning 50 is a big deal. When a man turns 50, he "sees Abraham," a reference to the biblical figure who lived to 175. Women "see Sarah." It is one of those uniquely Dutch traditions that comes with lawn decorations, inflatable dolls, and of course, cake.
The party is usually a surprise or at least a well-planned affair by family and friends. The cake is the centrepiece. We get Abraham and Sarah cake orders year-round, and each one is personal. Some families want humour, others want elegance. Both work.
What Kind of Abraham and Sarah Cakes We Make
Every Abraham or Sarah cake we make is buttercream. No fondant. We build the design with piping, drips, fresh flowers, macarons, or acrylic cake toppers, depending on what fits the person turning 50.
Popular requests include the number 50 as a cake topper, gold or silver colour schemes, and designs that match the party theme. Some customers order a large cake for the main celebration plus a box of cupcakes for guests to take home.

Popular Designs for 50th Birthday Cakes
The most-requested style is a drip cake with gold accents and a "50" acrylic topper. Clean, modern, and it photographs well. Semi-naked cakes with fresh flowers are another favourite, especially for Sarah celebrations.
For Abraham cakes, we often see requests for bolder colours — black and gold, dark chocolate drip, or themed decorations that reflect the birthday person's hobbies. One customer asked for a cake inspired by their father's love of fishing. We made it work with buttercream.
We do not make novelty-shaped cakes or fondant figures, but our topper options (acrylic, flowers, macarons) give plenty of room for personalisation.
Ordering Your Abraham or Sarah Cake
We need at least one week of lead time. Share the date, number of guests, preferred flavours, and any design ideas when you order. Our base flavours are vanilla and chocolate cake, with fillings like chocolate ganache, white chocolate ganache, vanilla cream, vanilla with strawberry, or vanilla with raspberry.
