Kids' Party in Rotterdam? 7 Cake Ideas Kids Love

Every child has a thing. Here are the themes we get asked for most often.

Animals: Dinosaurs, unicorns, butterflies, cats, dogs. We pipe these in buttercream or use edible print toppers for more detailed characters. Dinosaur cakes with textured green and brown buttercream are a hit with 4-7 year olds.

Superheroes and characters: Spider-Man, Frozen, Paw Patrol, Mario. We work with the character's colour palette and add edible print elements. The cake itself is designed around the theme rather than trying to sculpt a full figure from cake.

Sports: Football cakes (green pitch buttercream with goal posts), gymnastics, dance. For football-mad kids, we can do their favourite team's colours.

Colour themes: Some kids just want "all pink" or "rainbow." That is easy. We do ombre, rainbow layers, or single-colour cakes with matching sprinkles and decorations.

Age-specific: A big number on top in buttercream, the child's name piped across the cake, and their favourite colours. Simple and personal.

Kids eat smaller portions than adults, but they definitely want cake. A good rule of thumb: count the number of children, add a few extra portions for parents and siblings, and size accordingly.

A 6-inch round cake gives you about 10 portions, which works for a small party of 6-8 kids plus a few adults. An 8-inch cake covers about 15-20 portions, good for a classroom-sized party. If you are inviting the whole class (20+ kids), a 10-inch cake or cupcakes alongside a smaller cake is the way to go.

Order at least one week before the party. If you want a specific theme with custom details, two weeks gives us more room. Send us a few reference images of what your child likes, along with their age, name, and any colour preferences.

Consider cupcakes as an alternative or addition. Kids love having their own individual cupcake, and it eliminates the need for plates, forks, and someone to do the cutting. A small display cake for the "happy birthday" moment plus cupcakes for the guests is a combination we do often.
