How Many Cupcakes Per Person? Simple Guide

For most events, plan on 1.5 cupcakes per adult and 1 cupcake per child. That accounts for the people who grab a second one and the few who skip dessert entirely.

Round up, not down. Having five extra cupcakes is always better than running short. Leftover cupcakes get eaten the next day. Missing cupcakes get remembered.

The type of event changes the math:

• Birthday party (kids) — 1 per child. Kids eat half, smash the other half, then ask for something else. Parents might want one too, so add extras for adults present.

• Office event — 1 per person. People at work tend to be restrained. Add 10% extra for the colleague who always takes two.
• Wedding or engagement — 2 per person if cupcakes are the main dessert. 1 per person if they're alongside a cake.
